Regeneration

Regeneration

MRP has two operation ways: the way to input only the difference between the previous plan and the current one, and another way to input all data of production plan every time. The former is called Net Change, while the latter is called Regeneration. In the Regeneration method, MRP clears all the data of the previous plan and enter all the data of new one. In the figure, the difference from the previous production plan is only the change of requirements for Period 6 of Product Z from 15 to 25. But, in this method, MRP corrects the requirements to 25 and then enters all the data again.
Since this method is relatively easy to operate, many companies employ it. Another good point in this method is that all the data is entered again and thus past errors are not accumulated, allowing the data volume to be maintained less. On the other hand, it takes so much time for MRP to perform one process. Therefore relatively long period of time (such as week-to-week ) is prepared for MRP's one cycle.
